Estates

The estate settlement process can be a daunting affair for any family to manage effectively. With decades of professional experience, Provident Trust Company can serve as your personal representative to settle your estate. Our professionals are skilled in every aspect of estate administration and are particularly sensitive to the concerns of the beneficiaries involved.

Provident Trust Company will work with your attorney and other professional advisors to ensure a smooth and efficient estate administration. We begin our duties as Personal Representative by meeting with the beneficiaries to describe the estate settlement process and to answer any questions they may have. Part of this discussion might include a determination of their immediate needs and income requirements. Then we will identify, assemble, value, and manage the decedent’s assets, including securities, cash, real estate, life insurance, business interests and tangible personal property.

In addition, a major focus as Personal Representative will be to evaluate and project the estate and income tax impact on the estate and its beneficiaries. A major part of this analysis includes working with your attorney and accountant to determine what actions might be taken to minimize tax obligations. This type of ‘post-mortem’ tax planning is an often overlooked, but extremely valuable service.

Other services Provident Trust Company provides as Personal Representative include:

  • Administrative activities such as beneficiary notices and daily cash management.
  • Investigating and satisfying the decedent’s outstanding bills, taxes and other debts
  • If necessary, determining which assets should be retained for distribution to the beneficiaries and which assets should be sold to cover final expenses
  • Collecting income and keeping detailed records
  • Coordination of various court documents and tax returns.
  • Distribution of assets as permitted by the Will.
  • Providing a complete accounting of the administration of the estate.
